Physics Meets Finance: A Formula for Your Future

Description

In a time when the economy is far from stable, it helps to develop a game plan to ensure and insure your financial future. This session will be aimed at giving practical advice to physicists at any career stage on how to plan for their financial future. Financial planning includes negotiating a salary and benefits package, developing a personal or family budget, understanding available investment vehicles to prepare for retirement, and everything in between! During their career, physicists can expect to experience job changes, which may necessitate consolidating or arranging payout of retirement accounts, and personal life changes such as marriage, buying and selling property, and supporting children through college. While physicists know how to handle numbers, the intricacies of financial planning require specialized knowledge. If you aren’t sure how much to contribute to a 401k/403b versus a Roth or Traditional IRA (or aren’t sure how those are different) this is the session for you. Come learn how to derive the formula for the future you want!
