Session Invited Program Leadership

Various Career Paths and Career Transitions for Graduates from Medical Physics

Description

While mentorship programs by AAPM and other institutions are increasing, there remains a strong need to raise awareness and provide resources for students and early-career physicists to explore diverse and rewarding career opportunities. This session aims to bridge this gap by assembling a panel of experts from across both imaging and therapy physics, providing participants with a real-world perspective on the multitude of career possibilities. The session will feature six short talks and Q&A. Speakers will represent a wide spectrum of experiences, including an imaging physics residency program director, a respected director of physics at an academic medical center, a leader from a private consulting group, a renowned researcher, an entrepreneur and business executive, and a professional who has transitioned from community hospital to academic medical school. The session will also address later-career perspectives, such as mid-career transitions and continued contributions after retirement. Panelists will share their unique perspectives and career and life stories, offering attendees practical insights and inspiration to help early-career physicists make informed and fulfilling career decisions.
