Editorial Perspectives Bridging Radiation Oncology and Medical Physics Publishing
Description
This session is a joint session from the journal editorial leadership of Medical Physics and JACMP, touching on the evolving vision of both journals and exploring the growing interplay between artificial intelligence, physics principles, and the future of scientific publishing. The first segment will present the new editorial team and highlight recent and upcoming initiatives designed to expand JACMP’s clinical impact—such as new content categories, reviewer engagement strategies, and collaborations that strengthen the bridge between clinical practice and innovation. The second segment will take a provocative look at AI’s promise and limitations in the context of physical laws—asking, “Can AI overcome logical physics constraints? Can it turn the moon into the sun?” This thought experiment will illustrate the importance of maintaining scientific rigor and interpretability as AI becomes increasingly integrated into imaging evaluation and radiation oncology workflows. Finally, the session will examine the shared and complementary missions of Medical Physics and JACMP, defining their synergistic roles in advancing both foundational research and clinical translation. Together, these perspectives will provide attendees with insight into how the journals and the broader AAPM community can shape a scientifically sound, AI-enabled future.
