JACMP Debates in Medical Physics: Challenging Perspectives to Advance the Field

Description

Scientific progress in medical physics and radiation oncology often arises through thoughtful disagreement and critical analysis. The JACMP Debates in Medical Physics series provides a unique platform to explore evolving, controversial, and conceptually challenging topics that shape our profession. This proposed session will highlight the value of constructive debate—where opposing yet evidence-based perspectives deepen understanding, stimulate innovation, and guide future directions in clinical practice and research. This year’s debates will span three major domains in medical physics: therapy, imaging, and radiopharmaceutical sciences. Each debate will feature two experts presenting contrasting viewpoints on key issues within their respective domains, followed by an interactive discussion and synthesis of lessons learned. By promoting respectful intellectual exchange, this session aims to strengthen professional reflection, encourage multidisciplinary dialogue, and cultivate a culture of critical thinking and collaboration within the medical physics community. Ultimately, such debates not only clarify current uncertainties but also inspire new directions for practice, education, and policy across our field.
