Contrast with a Conscience: Integrating Technological Innovation and Environmental Responsibility in CT Contrast Administration
Description
This educational session will review modern and emerging techniques for iodinated contrast administration in CT imaging, including injector technology, efficient dosing strategies, and photon counting CT with a focus on reducing the associated impact on patients and the environment. Modern injector technology and contrast packaging strategies that reduce unnecessary waste and improve operational efficiency are readily available, but not yet universally adopted. Additionally, despite well-established strategies for efficient contrast dosing, implementation remains inconsistent. By discussing the co-benefits of these modern advances for both patients and the planet, this session aims to better equip institutions to support clinical integration. Photon-counting CT is also now available at many institutions, and this technology has been shown to provide the opportunity to reduce the volume of contrast administered while providing comparable image quality. The goal of this session is to detail modern and emerging techniques that enable more efficient utilization of contrast in CT that will in turn benefit both patients and the planet.
