Shielding Strategies for Atypical Diagnostic System Installations

Description

Although being over 20 years old, NCRP 147 is still the "gold-standard" with respect to shielding for diagnostic rooms. However, the standard is still over 20 years old and is outdated with some of today's technologies and modern systems. Therefore, although using NCRP 147 shielding methods is still in use, many of these methods must be further applied to modern technology. It is up to the Qualified Expert (QE) to decide on how to properly apply the shielding principles in NCRP 147 to modern systems today, which have no mention in the standard. This 1 hour session will be broken up into three smaller talks: brief review of fundamental shielding principles and limitations, shielding methods for more complex installs part 1 (e.g. R&F rooms and mammography with tomosynthesis and even CEDM capability), and shielding methods for more complex installs part 2 (e.g. DECT and hybrid NM systems).
